The Whitney Biennial was pretty great. Matthew Brannon's prints featuring short, clever anecdotes in a room filed with noise cancelling speakers were nice. Plus he's originally from Idaho, alright! Karen Kilimnik's paintings are always a pleasure to see, and I can think of no more an appropriate place for a chandelier but in a room full of her work. Francis Stark also had some nice pieces that seemed to concentrate on small, singular moments, and aspects of the artists daily existence.

But far and away the superstar of the Biennial for me was Olaf Breuning. His video
Home 2 was, to put it in blatant terms, magical. I was so pleased to find it in a room filled with Tiki inspired decor and people genuinely having a great time. It is funny, poignant, and above all full of life and creativity. It put a smile on my face for the rest of the day and made me believe in not only art, but the beauty of the world. His website is a must see, and you can actually see the video via the link above, so do yourself a favor and take the next half hour to watch it in full. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Also, on Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Kevin Bewersdorf for the first time. It is always nice to meet someone who you only know via the internets, and especially when they are genuinely awesome. Kevin's work was a pleasure to see in person (although I would have liked to see some of his American Stock Photos). My favorite line from our chat was far and away; "I just drive to the nearest Chilie's or Wal-Mart, get out of my car, and start exploring." Thanks for the pencil Kevin!

Liz Kuball's interview was terrific.

Your photographs in Liz Kuball's post are really sublime.

I agree with you about Karen's work...beautiful and brilliant.

Are you familiar with Thomas Bangsted's work?

Cheers.
